MISSION

Stable Roots for Growth Society exists to remove barriers for children, youth, adults and families who have been impacted by trauma by providing access to trauma-informed therapy and care farm services rooted in connection, safety, and belonging. We integrate relational neuroscience, connection-based approaches, and the healing power of nature, animals, and community to support individuals and families in their wellness journey.

We are committed to ensuring all individuals—regardless of financial, systemic, or social barriers—can access high-quality trauma therapy, caregiver support, and experiential wellness programs that nourish the nervous system and strengthen family roots.

VISION

We envision a community where every child, youth, adult and caregiver has access to the support they need to heal, connect, and thrive. SRGS aims to become a leading model of innovative, trauma-informed care where:

  • Families and individuals are met with dignity and compassion

  • Quality trauma-informed services are accessible to all

  • Caregiver support is recognized as foundational to the wellbeing of children and youth

  • Community, nature, and therapeutic support weave together to create a sustainable care farm program

  • Experiential farm-based therapies, animal rescue, and land stewardship work hand-in-hand

We strive to grow a future where the roots of connection run deep, and every family has the opportunity to experience belonging, healing, and hope.

A care farm uses the natural environment of a farm as a space for learning, healing, and growth — supporting emotional, physical, and social well-being.  In our care farm program, we guide people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities in tending to the land, gardens, and animals — helping them nurture those same skills of care and connection within themselves and in their relationships with others.

Our equine rescue program offers sanctuary for horses who have experienced neglect, trauma or displacement, while creating meaningful opportunities for people to engage in care, connection, and co-regulation. Through gentle presence, shared rhythms, and reciprocal trust, both humans and horses rediscover safety, belonging and the capacity to heal together.

In 2022, the Thrive Collective therapists created the Journey Fund to provide trauma therapy for families in Kamloops who lack the financial means to access 1-1 clinical support. We have been serving this community for over a decade and recognize the need for accessible therapy.

Who We Are

Our Roots

Stable Roots for Growth Society was born from a deep belief that healing happens within safe, attuned relationships. Rooted in lived experience, trauma-informed practice, and a lifelong connection to land and animals, our work grew from witnessing both human and equine resilience in the presence of safety, connection, and care.

Our roots are grounded in creating spaces where humans can feel safe and supported, where rescued horses are offered dignity and time to heal, and where relationships, not outcomes, lead the way. Through our care farm, equine rescue, and commitment to accessible trauma-informed therapy, we nurture the conditions that allow healing and growth to take root.

Founding Story

Our vision grew from an adolescent’s experience of attempting to navigate mental health and educational systems during a very vulnerable time in her life. This left her with a deep yearning for something beyond the support services being offered to her at the time. It was within her relationship with her horse and in the connections made within this barn community that she was able to find solace.

She began imagining a space that could offer mental health support, connection with nature & horses, and educational opportunities - all within a nourishing, safe environment.  She dreamed of natural space for people to heal, where they could find a sense of purpose and belonging, and explore their own interests through facilitated learning opportunities and in building healthy relationships. As she navigated her own wellness journey and worked towards high school graduation through alternative roots, her vision grew.

Finally, on healing land near Kamloops, BC, the seed was at last planted. With the nourishment, loving care, and collaboration with others within the community who dream the same dream, Stable Roots is now blossoming and bearing fruit. We look forward to welcoming you here.

We acknowledge that we are living and working on land within the unceded traditional territory of the Secwépemc Nation.  We honour the land itself, and the Secwépemc people, who have been stewards of it through the generations.
